Kia ora, and welcome to our site! I’m Tracy Johnson and together with my partner, Stephen Shaw we have created The Fine Cloth Company. We’re based in the windy capital Wellington and we came together as a couple about three years ago.

The thing that appealed to both of us was our common goal of a simple life that was invigorating, creative and fun! I’d made a conscious decision to change my lifestyle after my second kidney transplant in 2017 and so this business is a blend of our careers and experience along with our love of creativity, textiles and for me especially making more of my own clothes.

Stephen is known to many sewers through his shop the Fabric Warehouse in Wellington. I feel so lucky to have his experience of some 50 years in textiles which combines well with my background in sales, marketing, events and before my transplant, a membership organization set up to support businesses.

We hope you love our site! We’re so proud of it, our social media and photography gurus Grace and Jess (so blessed to have them) and the fabrics we have sourced. We’re intentionally small and we hope you enjoy our journey as we evolve and source great textiles in the future.

We're fans of a circular economy specialising in natural fibres such as linen, wool and silk from all over Asia.  Some of our wools are blended and we have done this to cater for a range of sewing budgets.  We are working to diversify as we grow with environmentally and socially certified fabrics.
